BP Protests
I’ve seen news on the wires that protests against BP have started springing up around the gulf coasts, and Tallahassee had one today. Organized by FSU’s Center for Participant Education and ANSWER coalition, around 15-20 students, teachers, and residents gathered on the corner of Apalachee Pkwy and Monroe Street to voice their concerns over the oil giant’s involvement in the Gulf Oil Spill.

According to an article by the Associated Press, bad wiring, a hydraulic leak in the ‘blowout preventer,’ sealing problems, and a dead battery all contributed to the April 20 explosion and subsequent leak which began spilling into the Gulf after the Deepwater Horizon sank.

Worst case scenario, so I’ve read, is that the spill will eventually find it’s way into the Gulf Stream, which would bring it down Florida’s west coast, through the Florida Straits, and back up the east coast of the US. I’m not sure the potential severity of the contamination throughout the Gulf Streams entirety, but it does flow into the North Atlantic…

Thanks for your good work. Is there still a protest May 30th?
